A tummy tuck is a procedure designed to help restore your abdominal profile, creating a firmer and smoother appearance overall. During this procedure, also referred to as abdominoplasty, we will remove excess fat and skin, often restoring weakened muscles in the abdominal region as well.
We perform all of our tummy tucks in hospital, and include an overnight stay. We begin the surgery by placing you under general anesthetic for your comfort during the procedure. We then begin the procedure itself, by creating a horizontal incision in the lower abdomen between the pubic hairline and the belly button. After we have lifted the abdominal skin, we repair the weakened abdominal muscles underneath. A second incision may be made around the navel to remove excess skin as necessary. Excess skin is then trimmed, and the skin that remains is sutured back together. We will create a new opening for the belly button, pop it through, and then suture that in place as well. At the end of the procedure, each incision will be closed with sutures.
Your tummy tuck will result in a flatter and firmer abdomen profile, which can give you that extra boost of confidence you’ve been looking for.
Many people strive to achieve their ideal body goals, including the development of a flatter firmer abdomen, by engaging in a healthy lifestyle. Sometimes though our bodies can use a little outside help to get our more desired appearance. Stubborn belly fat can often be the results of factors that are outside of our control, including age, heredity, pregnancy, significant fluctuations in weight, and more. Ideal candidates for a tummy tuck are:
A mini tummy tuck is largely performed on people who only have loose and excess fat in the lower abdominal region. This procedure is a good solution for those who desire a less invasive surgery and who also have less fat stores and excess skin to remove. Many people who receive a mini tummy tuck also recover in a quicker amount of time. However, this procedure does not work for everyone. If you have fat and excess skin above your navel as well and a noticeable space between your abdomen, we often recommend the full tummy tuck procedure. Ultimately, we are here to help you make the best decision for your overall health and body goals.
After your surgery, we will provide and apply appropriate bandages and dressings to your incisions. We may also wrap your abdomen in an elastic bandage or compression garment to reduce your swelling and promote support for your abdomen as it heals from the procedure. You will have a thin tube(s) placed temporarily under your skin to help drain excess blood or fluids. We will provide you with specific instructions on how to care for your body after the procedure. Restrictions during the first 4 weeks include avoiding exercise, heavy lifting, and twisting motions. We will also go over any specific questions you may have before and after your surgery.
