What is liposuction surgery?

Liposuction is a procedure designed to slim and reshape specific areas of your body by removing excess fat deposits while also improving your body contours and proportions. There are numerous sections of the body on which we can perform this procedure, including your:

  • Abdomen and waist
  • Back
  • Chest area

Am I a good candidate for liposuction surgery?

Many of us are striving to reach our ideal body goals with weight loss, but reaching that goal can sometimes seem like an impossibility. We’re here to help you reach your goal and become the you that you want to be. Liposuction is a good option for people who are ready to attain their ideal body goals and who meet the following criteria:

  • Are within 30% of their ideal body weight
  • Have firm, elastic skin and firm muscle tone
  • Do not have any pre-existing medical conditions that may impair healing
  • Possess a positive outlook and specific, realistic goals for body contouring and the outcome of surgery.

How is liposuction performed?

We begin the procedure with the administration of anesthesia for your comfort. After the anesthetic takes effect, small inconspicuous incisions are made. A small hollow tube, also referred to as a cannula, is inserted into the incisions and is used to shake loose the excess fat with controlled back and forth movements. Once the fat is loosened, we use a surgical vacuum attached to the cannula to suction out the fat that has been dislodged.

Many people exhibit signs of swelling and fluid retention, as well as bruising post-surgery. You will begin to see the results of your surgery once these symptoms subside. Your improved body contour can be maintained with the perpetuation of a healthy lifestyle. We are excited to help you on your journey to becoming the you you want to be and we are here to answer any questions you may have to determine if this surgery is right for you.

What is the recovery time for liposuction?

We will provide you with all the necessary dressings, bandages, and compression garments to help promote a speedy recovery after your surgery. Typically a patient will wear a compression garment for 1-2 months after surgery, but most people are able to return to work within just a couple days after their surgery. A full return to regular life activities can typically be achieved within four  weeks post-surgery.

What is the difference between liposuction and a tummy tuck?

While both of these procedures are designed to help rid the body of undesired fat deposits, liposuction is typically performed on a smaller scale and only removes fat. A tummy tuck is a procedure that rids the body of undesirable fat as well as the excess skin that often remains after a dramatic shift in weight loss. If you would like to learn more about whether a tummy tuck or liposuction is the right decision for you, reach out today, and we will be happy to set up a consultation.
